About me
I started with Shiatsu 25 years ago. I have continued to practice it since, in parallel to my other occupations. I have since been certified at the Tmurut College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. after 2 comprehensive years of theoretical and practical studies.
I like the opportunity to help people feel better through Shiatsu. I like to get to know my patients, see them as whole persons, and to learn from them and with them. I believe we lack personal attention and affection in this modern world, and have seen how touching people through Shiatsu can fill that essential element in our lives.
I moved to Stockholm in 2020 for work. So if you are in the area, and feel like you need something to help you become more relaxed, stronger physically. emotionally and mentally, and enjoy a better flow in your everyday life – please get in touch with me.
How does this work? Common questions and answers
Shiatsu is a Japanese therapy, based on the foundations of Traditional Chinese medicine. It involves applying pressure to the patient’s body with thumbs, hands, elbows and more, as well as stretching, rotating and rocking the body. It is done with the patient fully clothed, and is usually carried out of a floor mattress.
You should wear comfortable clothes – such as a training or similar pants, and short or long sleeved shirt. If possible, avoid belts or buttons, and take off any bracelets or necklaces for the duration of the session. There is a room to change clothes in the clinic.
See the Shiatsu treatments pricing page for details.
A Shiatsu treatment can be recognized as a Friskvårdsbidrag (personal health activity reimbursement) which can be refunded as part of the employee benefits, in case you have those in your workplace. It is a form of massage for tension relief, as listed in the Skatterverket website. Please check with your employer to make sure about the requirements and eligibility.
Shiatsu is not meant to replace standard, western, medicine. It complements it by helping people deal with pain, chronic problems, or issues that western medicine does not consider a medical issue. In addition, the western medical approach is sometimes focused on the symptoms of the problem (e.g. take a pain pill), whereas the Chinese approach would seek to identify and tackle the core reasons and causes of those symptoms and getting them balanced and flowing again.
Shiatsu is also about building your immunity and defenses before you get sick, thus allowing your body to face external risks and illness better, or recuperate faster if you do get ill. Some countries integrate Shiatsu as part of the standard treatments recognized and recommended for public health.
As Shiatsu can have a strong effect on the flow and function of your body, in specific cases, medical approval should be given before starting a treatment. In any case of major disease or operation – please inform me.
Shiatsu can be good for all ages. Some children may find it difficult to remain relaxed for a long duration, at least in the first sessions, and therefore may enjoy a shorter one. In any case, please consult with me before scheduling a session for anyone under 14 years old.
A regular Shiatsu session typically takes 50-60 minutes. However, a specific session focused on one area might be shorter, and a longer and more extensive session might last 90 minutes. After your first session, we will work out the best schedule and treatment plan for your needs.
In specific cases, Shiatsu can help alleviate a problem after just one session. However, in most cases there is a larger underlying imbalance that requires a series of sessions, and possibly recommendations for you to do exercises and work on some habits in between sessions. With these more ongoing issues, we would expect to see a change gradually taking place within 3-5 sessions.
Having said that, Shiatsu is great for getting you back in balance, releasing tension, building your physical and emotional stamina, and making you a more relaxed person. As such, some people choose to have it on a regular weekly basis for years.
Shiatsu is not meant to hurt. If you have an area with an existing pain, applying pressure to it, or rotating it may be at the edge of pain, but I make it a habit to ask you if the pressure is fine. Some minor pain may indicate that the cause of that pain is being released thanks to the treatment, and should later lead to more comfort.
In some cases, Shiatsu may be just what you need to help you when you are not feeling well. However, in some cases (e.g. infectious disease) it may be advisable to wait for a later time, or to take some precautions. If you’re not not feeling well for any reason, please let me know, even on the day of the scheduled session.
Some conditions may require special consideration. For example, Shiatsu for pregnant women should be done with care, as to not affect the pregnancy, or if you have recently went through a major surgery the treatment may cause stitches to open if not done with care. Also, if you are receiving any other medical treatment for an existing condition, please inform me and provide medical information, as my first rule is to keep you safe and not disturb other medical treatments.
Having said that, Shiatsu often complements other medical treatments, and helps with chronic ongoing conditions, or the side effects of other treatments.
